State of Emergency: Armed Military Officers Seize Control of Rivers Government House

The decision comes amid ongoing political tensions in the state. As part of the measures, Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, for an initial six-month period. Additionally, all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have been suspended.

To oversee the state’s affairs, Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as Administrator.

Shortly after the announcement, military officers in fully loaded trucks secured the Government House entrance. Tinubu’s decision followed a high-level security meeting with his service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police at the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock.
