In the midst of swirling speculation and political upheaval, the Labour Party (LP) remains steadfast in its resolve to retain former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as a key member, according to spokesperson Yunusa Tanko…..READ ALSO Nigerian Catholic Priest Expresses Concern For Peter Obi
Tanko dispelled rumors of Obi’s potential departure from the party, emphasizing that the seasoned politician sees no compelling reason to sever ties with the Labour Party despite recent challenges and controversies.
The LP, grappling with internal strife and leadership disputes, has weathered turbulent times surrounding the 2023 general election, with allegations of corruption and misconduct leveled against National Chair Julius Abure.
Despite calls from a faction of supporters urging Obi to consider forming a new political entity, affectionately dubbed ‘Obidients’, Tanko affirmed Obi’s unwavering commitment to the Labour Party’s ideals and objectives.
In an exclusive conversation with TheCable, Tanko underscored Obi’s pivotal role in bolstering the party’s credibility and fostering a sense of purpose among its ranks.
He elucidated: “Peter Obi remains firmly rooted in the Labour Party and harbors no intentions of abandoning ship. His presence has significantly elevated the party’s stature and resonance with the Nigerian populace.”
Tanko refuted claims of clandestine discussions regarding the formation of a new political outfit, asserting that Obi is dedicated to fortifying the LP and effecting positive change within its framework.
He asserted, “Any insinuation of Peter Obi contemplating departure is unfounded. His loyalty to the Labour Party is unshakeable, and his focus is on effecting internal reforms to address any existing challenges.”
In addressing the prospect of collaboration or merger with like-minded entities, Tanko affirmed Obi’s readiness to forge alliances with individuals and groups committed to steering Nigeria toward a brighter future.
He concluded, “Peter Obi’s vision extends beyond partisan divides. He welcomes all who share his vision for a rejuvenated Nigeria, irrespective of political affiliation, to join hands in advancing the cause of national renewal
