The Kano State Police Command has called for calm and urged residents to maintain peace and order following growing tensions sparked by the recent preaching of Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Lawan Triumph. The sermon, which reportedly ignited intense public debate and concern among various groups, prompted the police to intervene swiftly to de-escalate the situation.

The police disclosed that the Commissioner of Police had invited Sheikh Triumph for a meeting on Thursday, July 10, 2025. The engagement, the statement said, was part of broader consultations involving government officials, religious leaders, and community representatives aimed at preventing any further escalation of tensions.

“In response to the situation, on 10th July, 2025, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, having invited the Sheikh, has initiated discussions with relevant stakeholders to address the concerns and ensure that necessary measures are put in place to prevent any potential escalation,” the statement read.

The Police Command urged all citizens to exercise restraint and refrain from actions or statements that could inflame public sentiment. It emphasized the need for mutual respect in a diverse society and stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence, especially in matters relating to freedom of worship and expression.

“It is important to respect the rights and beliefs of others and to operate within the confines of laws and regulations that govern our society, in our exercise of freedom to worship and expression, among others,” the statement continued.

The police also advised members of the public with grievances or concerns to channel them through appropriate legal and institutional avenues rather than resort to inflammatory remarks or social media agitation, which could further provoke unrest.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding peace in the state, the Command reiterated its dedication to justice, fairness, and the protection of all citizens, regardless of their religious, ethnic, or political affiliations.

As public reactions to Sheikh Triumph’s sermon continue to stir debate, security agencies and community leaders are working behind the scenes to ensure that dialogue prevails over conflict and that the atmosphere in Kano remains calm and respectful.
