Tensions Soar in PDP as Wabara Warns of Political Doom Over Failed Unity

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has issued a stern warning to party members, stressing that failure to achieve a successful national convention could have severe repercussions for the PDP’s future ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to iReporter Online, Wabara, who was represented at the PDP’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja by former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, urged members to put internal disputes aside and work collectively to elect credible leaders who can reposition the party as a formidable opposition.

He acknowledged skepticism about the NEC meeting ever taking place but underscored its constitutional significance, describing it as a turning point that could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape. He emphasized that the outcome of the convention would determine whether the PDP can regain public trust and draw in both returning and new members—including individuals who have never been involved in partisan politics.

“The convention must inspire confidence,” he warned, adding that unity and diplomacy were essential to rebuilding the party’s image. Wabara called for careful and respectful communication among members, especially when addressing lingering grievances or tensions within the party.

He stated, “This meeting is not only legal but historic. The choices we make today will send a message to Nigerians and potential allies. A successful convention will mark the beginning of our resurgence. But if we fail, God forbid, the consequences will be grave.”

Wabara further reiterated the support of the PDP Board of Trustees for all party organs and governors in fostering unity and consensus. He advised members to focus on reconciliation and to avoid aggravating internal divisions.

As the PDP positions itself for 2027, Wabara’s remarks serve as a clear signal that the party’s survival and relevance hinge on its ability to rise above factionalism and present a united front.
