Natacha Bouchart, the mayor of Calais, shared her condolences on Facebook, emphasizing the influence Jacob had on the community. She wrote, “We start this day with sad news. Thierry Jacob died overnight, far too young.”

Jacob began his professional boxing career in 1984 and retired in 1994 with an impressive record of 39 wins and 6 losses.

Although his reign as WBC super bantamweight champion was shorter than anticipated—losing the title in his first defense against American Tracy Harris Patterson in New York—his contributions to the sport, especially in his community, are still celebrated.
