Tinubu: My Administration Is Reversing Medical Tourism, Upgrading Nigeria’s Healthcare

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says his administration is reversing Nigeria’s long-standing dependence on medical tourism through ongoing upgrades in healthcare infrastructure and expanded access to quality services.

According to iReporter Online, the president made the remark on Thursday during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community in Japan. The engagement, held at the Kahala Hotel and Resort in Yokohama, took place on the sidelines of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).

Highlighting key achievements, Tinubu stated, “The government has also reversed the trend of medical tourism by upgrading healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality services at home.”

He added that his leadership is rooted in the principle of “thinking and doing” — a blend of vision and actionable strategy — to drive national stability, unity, and development. “Nigeria is on the rise again,” Tinubu declared confidently.

The president also highlighted progress in passport processing, which he said has become more efficient for both Nigerians at home and abroad. He reiterated that his administration is focused on building a system where every citizen can feel the direct impact of reforms.

Diaspora Participation Crucial, Says Tinubu

President Tinubu called on Nigerians in the diaspora to become more involved in national development by leveraging their skills, knowledge, and investments. “If you stay away, who will build it?” he asked. “Your contribution is very much needed.”

He emphasized that building a strong nation is a shared responsibility. According to him, Nigerians abroad should serve as ambassadors of the country and help reshape global perceptions. “The strength of citizenship is not just in holding a passport, but in character and commitment to progress,” he noted.

According to iReporter Online, Tinubu cautioned against negative portrayals of Nigeria, warning that they not only undermine national image but also discourage vital partnerships and foreign investment.

Government Officials and Business Leaders Highlight Reforms

During the session, Tinubu invited the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh, and NASENI Executive Vice Chairman, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, to present updates on ongoing reforms.

Oil and gas executive Wale Tinubu also addressed the gathering, citing improvements in competitiveness, investment inflows, and stock market performance as evidence of reform-driven economic recovery.

According to iReporter Online, many members of the Nigerian community in Japan welcomed the government’s progress reports, expressing satisfaction with recent changes and pledging to play more active roles in national transformation.

Mr. Emeka Ebogota, President of the Nigerian Union in Japan, expressed gratitude to the President for engaging directly with the diaspora. He affirmed the group’s full support for the administration’s goals.

Among other attendees were award-winning technologist John Ologbotsere, entrepreneur Kingsley Kabuyashi, and a cross-section of Nigerian doctors, business leaders, and students based in Japan.
