Tinubu Donates 34-Month Salary To Support Armed Forces
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the establishment of a welfare fund dedicated to members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of activities marking his 74th birthday. According to Ireporter Online, the initiative is designed to provide support for serving personnel, injured soldiers, and families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The President has directed the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to open a dedicated account that will serve as a central pool for contributions aimed at assisting affected military personnel and their dependents. As an initial contribution, Tinubu revealed that all salaries he has received since assuming office in May 2023 will be paid into the fund.
The fund is expected to cater to soldiers who sustained severe injuries during operations, including those who suffered permanent disabilities, as well as families left behind by fallen officers. It will operate alongside existing welfare and insurance structures within the military, with a focus on delivering direct support to those most impacted by the risks associated with service.
Tinubu further called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, private organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the initiative once the account details are made public. He noted that the decision underscores the importance of caring for those who risk their lives daily to protect the nation, as well as supporting families who bear the consequences of such sacrifices.
