Tinubu Has No Opposition in the North – SWAGA Declares as 2027 Mobilisation Heats Up

A socio-political movement known as the South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) 2.0 has expressed firm support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, urging Nigerians to disregard claims suggesting a lack of support from the North.

During a press briefing in Lagos to flag off the second phase of its nationwide mobilisation, the group, led by former Senate Spokesman Dayo Adeyeye, dismissed opposition narratives accusing the President of favouring only individuals from the South-West in his appointments.

According to SWAGA 2.0, since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, no leader has demonstrated as much boldness and reform-minded governance as Tinubu. The group cited the removal of the long-standing and controversial fuel subsidy as a landmark decision that has boosted allocations to states and federal agencies. Adeyeye described the subsidy as a corrupt mechanism that siphoned national resources, enriching a few while deepening poverty among the majority.

He emphasized that all major presidential contenders in the last general election had pledged to scrap the fuel subsidy, but it was Tinubu who had the courage to execute the plan immediately upon assuming office.

The group also lauded other economic reforms undertaken by the administration, including floating the naira, halting the indiscriminate printing of money, and ending the controversial “ways and means” borrowing. These measures, SWAGA claimed, have contributed to currency stabilization and increased investor confidence.

Highlighting the launch of the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which now provides annual tuition and monthly upkeep stipends to students, Adeyeye described the initiative as another legacy achievement designed to empower Nigerian youth and expand access to education.

On the issue of perceived Northern opposition, the group insisted there was no uniform resistance from the region. Adeyeye maintained that none of the 36 state governors had publicly opposed Tinubu, asserting that dissenting voices were isolated actors with personal political agendas rather than a reflection of collective regional sentiment.

SWAGA 2.0 urged Nigerians to judge Tinubu’s administration by its accomplishments, stressing that the progress made within just two years signals even greater gains ahead. The group expressed optimism that under eight years of Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria would witness unprecedented national transformation across sectors.
