Tinubu Saved Nigeria From Worse” – Uzodimma Speaks Out
According to Ireporter Online, the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has credited the economic reforms implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with protecting Nigeria from a potential fuel crisis amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Uzodimma made the remarks while hosting members of the City Boy Movement at the Government House in Owerri over the weekend. The governor noted that rising global fuel prices, largely influenced by disruptions along the Strait of Hormuz and military actions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran, could have led to severe domestic fuel shortages if not for the reforms.
The governor emphasized that Nigeria’s economy had been stabilised under Tinubu’s administration, insulating the country from global shocks. “Nigeria was almost at a decaying level when the President assumed office in 2023,” Uzodimma said. “Despite the speculative tension in the Middle East, domestic fuel prices have remained manageable, and the Nigerian naira has held steady.”
Uzodimma further highlighted the role of subsidy removal in strengthening the foreign exchange market and enabling domestic refiners, such as Dangote Refinery, to purchase crude oil in naira. He pointed out that while other African currencies experienced volatility against the U.S. dollar, Nigeria’s exchange rate has remained relatively stable at ₦1,240.
The governor also praised the City Boy Movement for their charitable initiatives and encouraged its members to act as ambassadors of the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda. Uzodimma described the visit as a “homecoming” and reaffirmed his administration’s support for the youth movement and its efforts to prepare young Nigerians for future leadership roles. He additionally commended improvements in infrastructure and political stability in the South-East region, attributing part of these gains to the Tinubu government’s policies.
