Tinubu Shakes Up Tertiary Leadership, Appoints AVM Kaita as BUK Governing Council Chair

According to iReporter Online, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Air Vice Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano. This appointment comes as part of an administrative reshuffle aimed at optimizing federal leadership responsibilities.

AVM Kaita replaces Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who will now focus exclusively on his duties as Chairman of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA). A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development, stating that the decision was made to enable Gawuna to fully commit to overseeing national housing strategies without distractions.

A respected figure in Nigeria’s military and strategic command landscape, AVM Kaita served in key capacities within the Nigerian Air Force prior to his retirement. His roles included Director of Strategy at the Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Transformation and Innovation. Known for championing institutional reform and enhancing training standards within the military, he brings a wealth of experience to his new academic oversight role.

AVM Kaita is expected to apply his expertise in organizational development, strategic planning, and leadership to elevate the governance and performance of Bayero University—one of Nigeria’s leading higher education institutions.
