Tinubu to Strengthen Nigeria-Equatorial Guinea Ties with Landmark Petroleum and Security Agreements

President Bola Tinubu is set to sign crucial agreements on petroleum resources and security during his three-day official visit to Equatorial Guinea. The visit, initiated at the invitation of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, marks a pivotal moment in the bilateral relations between the two nations.

President Tinubu arrived in Equatorial Guinea on Tuesday, touching down at the Malabo International Airport’s Presidential Wing around 2 pm. He was warmly welcomed by the Prime Minister, Manuela Roka Botey, in a brief but ceremonial reception.

The highlight of this visit will be the signing of bilateral agreements that focus on strengthening cooperation in oil and gas, as well as enhancing security collaboration between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea. These agreements are expected to open new avenues for mutual growth and strategic partnerships in critical sectors.

Following his arrival, President Tinubu proceeded to the Presidential Palace, commonly referred to as the People’s Palace Court, where he participated in a formal ceremony. The event included a family photo session, a military parade, and a private meeting between President Tinubu and President Mbasogo. This meeting will be followed by the official signing of the agreements.

The day’s events will culminate in President Tinubu signing a historic visitors’ book, with a press statement to follow. The evening will conclude with a state dinner in honor of the visiting Nigerian delegation.

Accompanying President Tinubu on this important mission are key members of his administration, including Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Defense Minister Alhaji Abubakar Badaru, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo, and Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Also present are Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, Minister of Youth Development Jamila Ibrahim-Bio, and the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.

The business community is also well-represented, with Abdulkabir Adisa Aliu, CEO of Matrix Group, joining the delegation, underscoring the importance of this visit for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

This visit is expected to bolster Nigeria’s influence in the region and solidify ties with Equatorial Guinea, paving the way for future collaborations that will benefit both nations.
