Speaking at the launch of the agricultural mechanisation revolution for food security and the commissioning of the remodelled domestic terminal of the Bola Tinubu International Airport in Minna, Niger State, Tinubu emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of the conflict.
Tinubu stressed that providing designated grazing areas would help prevent violent clashes, safeguard lives, and protect agricultural investments. He urged governors to prioritize this initiative to mitigate the loss of lives and farm produce caused by the conflict.
Additionally, Tinubu urged state governments to implement wage awards to alleviate the hardship faced by a significant portion of the population. He underscored the need for comprehensive programmes aimed at banishing hunger from the land.
Asserting the federal government’s commitment to addressing hunger and hardship, Tinubu announced upcoming initiatives such as the student loan scheme and social security programmes for vulnerable demographics. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the federal and state governments to effectively implement these interventions.
In response, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago reaffirmed the state’s commitment to agricultural development as a cornerstone of its economic revitalization efforts. He highlighted ongoing initiatives to cultivate ungoverned spaces and improve infrastructure to facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce to markets.
Tinubu’s call for providing grazing land represents a proactive approach to addressing the farmers-herders conflict, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts between federal and state governments to achieve lasting solutions.
