Tinubu Urges-Unity And Stability In Northwest-Nigeria At UNDP-Summit (View-Text)

President Bola Tinubu, speaking through Vice President Kashim Shetima, emphasized the imperative of a cohesive and peaceful North West region and Nigeria at large during a two-day Northwest Peace and Security Summit sponsored by UNDP. The summit, themed “Regional Cooperation for Securing Lives and Livelihoods in North West Nigeria,” aimed to address historical injustices, institutional weaknesses in security, economic vulnerabilities to crime, and ideological challenges affecting peace and security in the region.

Tinubu underscored the cultural unity and shared interests that bind communities across Nigeria and beyond, calling for collective efforts to extinguish the fires threatening stability. He expressed confidence in existing strategies to tackle inherited security challenges, stressing the need for unity to combat cycles of conflict and violence.

The summit was attended by prominent figures including former president Muhammadu Buhari, Sultan of Sokoto Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, Emir of Zazzau Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, governors from the Northwest, and other northern leaders, reflecting a unified commitment to addressing regional security concerns.
