Tiv Leaders Seek Government Amnesty For Ex-Bandits In Troubled Benue

Recently, several notorious militia leaders from Benue’s Sankera region abandoned banditry, a change attributed to efforts by Most Rev. Isaac Dugu, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala. The Mdzough U Tiv commended these former bandits, expressing gratitude to the Catholic Bishop and the state government for advancing peace.

However, MUT voiced concern over ongoing attacks on Sankera communities by armed herders, urging both federal and state authorities to take decisive steps to protect local citizens and ensure long-lasting peace.

In a weekend statement from Makurdi, signed by President-General Chief Iorbee Ihagh and Secretary-General Luther Iorbee, MUT also called for immediate government intervention to end violence in the area, insisting that peace and safety in Tiv communities across Benue State are “non-negotiable.”
