Tolu Arokodare: Premier League Is Tougher Than I Expected
According to Ireporter Online, Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has admitted that adapting to the Premier League has been far more challenging than he initially anticipated.
Arokodare joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from Belgian side KRC Genk last summer after an impressive scoring run in Belgium, but he has since found himself in the midst of a relegation battle. Wolves currently occupy the bottom of the Premier League table with 16 points from 30 matches, recording just three victories this season, including a 2-1 win over Liverpool on March 3.
Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad, the 23-year-old forward reflected on the intensity of England’s top flight, noting that the Premier League demands a higher level of effort. “The two leagues are comparable: physically demanding, intense, and fast. But in the Premier League, you have to double your efforts,” he said.
Arokodare admitted that his early matches were particularly difficult. “It wasn’t easy, I admit. My first matches were a struggle. It was even harder than I expected. I’ve made progress since then, but I’m not where I want to be yet,” he said.
Arriving in England fresh from a title challenge with Genk, Arokodare now faces the fight to help Wolves avoid relegation. “I knew I wasn’t coming here on holiday, that I’d have to fight. So not much has changed in that respect. I was fighting with Genk, and now I’m fighting with Wolves, then for the title, now to stay up in the league,” he explained.
The striker, who once scored regularly in Belgium, has struggled to find the net in England, registering just two goals in 25 Premier League appearances before the clash with Liverpool. “I want to learn from this and become stronger,” he said. “But it goes without saying that it’s tough being the top scorer last season and now not even close to double figures.”
