Tragic Toll: Jigawa Fire Incidents Claim 50 Lives And Destroy N215 Million In Property in 2023, Director Reveals

In a press briefing, Gumel highlighted the agency’s efforts in responding to 160 fire calls and 45 rescue calls throughout the state.

Despite the tragic losses, Gumel also shared some positive outcomes from the fire service’s interventions.

A total of 250 lives were successfully rescued, and property valued at over N755 million was preserved in various incidents involving fire, drowning, and road accidents across Jigawa State in the same year.

The director stressed the importance of public caution, especially during the harmattan season, urging citizens to handle fire and electrical appliances with care to prevent future tragedies.

In a separate report, the Jigawa police command made strides in curbing theft, arresting three suspects connected to the alleged theft of 48 goats in Babura and Kiyawa Local Government Areas.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmadu Abdullahi, revealed that the arrests were made during distinct operations, leading to the recovery of stolen goats valued at N1.3 million.

The suspects, identified as Abdullahi Usman and Hassan Ado, admitted to conspiring with another individual, Tasiu Umar, who is currently at large.

The police commissioner detailed their actions, including selling 18 goats to two other suspects, Abdullahi Amadu and Mustapha, both of whom are currently on the run.

Another suspect, Ado Buba, was apprehended in possession of 22 goats suspected to be stolen. The police, through diligent investigation, traced the owner of the goats, Adamu Maina, confirming the theft.

As the investigation progresses, the arrested suspects will face charges in court, reflecting the commitment of law enforcement to maintain security and address criminal activities in the state.
