U.S. Man Charged Over Online Threats To Assassinate Donald Trump And Government Officials
The U.S. Department of Justice has announced the arrest and federal charges against a man who allegedly issued online threats to assassinate former President Donald Trump and other government officials.
Shawn Monper, 32, who allegedly operated online under the alias “Mr. Satan,” was charged with making threats to assault and murder Trump, as well as targeting officials from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to a criminal complaint unsealed Friday…READ MORE…
The DOJ stated that the FBI was alerted to the threats after receiving an emergency report regarding YouTube posts from a user identified as “Mr. Satan.” Investigators later traced the online activity to Monper’s residence.
Monper is a resident of Butler Township, Pennsylvania, the same area where a gunman attempted to assassinate Trump during a campaign rally in July 2024. The former president narrowly survived the incident, which left one person dead and several others injured.
According to the DOJ, Monper obtained a firearms permit shortly after Trump’s inauguration in January and made several alarming comments online, including a post stating that he had “bought several guns and been stocking up on ammo since Trump got in office.”
On February 17, Monper allegedly wrote: “We just need to start killing people—Trump, Elon [Musk], all the heads of agencies Trump appointed, and anyone who stands in the way.” He also referenced initiating a second American revolution, claiming the MAGA movement was a minority and would eventually be weakened.
Further investigation revealed that on March 4, during a live-streamed video titled “Live: Trump’s Address to Congress,” Monper explicitly stated his intent to “assassinate [Trump] myself.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi reaffirmed the Justice Department’s commitment to swiftly addressing threats of political violence, stating: “Whenever and wherever threats of assassination or mass violence occur, this Department will act decisively to identify, arrest, and prosecute the suspect to the fullest extent of the law.
