facing the sector across the country during the launch of a book titled “Rudiments of Veterinary Anaesthesia for Undergraduates,” edited by Dr. Foluso Bolaji-Alabi. The event was held at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State.

As the Chairperson of the Committee of Deans and Directors of Veterinary Schools in Nigeria, Ola-Davis emphasized the need for government funding in the profession for 2025 and beyond. “The government must invest more in education, as no nation can achieve greatness without it,” she stated. “We urge the government to enhance support for the education sector, particularly in veterinary medicine, as it is a costly profession that requires assistance.”

Discussing the newly launched book, she noted, “This book will significantly benefit our students, as many believe veterinary surgery is challenging. It simplifies the field, making it more accessible. It’s not only for students but also for practicing veterinarians, as it enhances our ability to care for patients effectively.”

The book’s author, Dr. Bolaji-Alabi, a senior lecturer in Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, shared that its aim is to simplify the practice of veterinary surgery and anaesthesia for both undergraduates and professionals. “Inspired by my students, I wanted to boost their confidence in veterinary anaesthesia. I collaborated with other scholars, including my mentor, Professor Adeniran Adetunji, to ensure comprehensiveness.”

Dr. Bolaji-Alabi believes that a solid foundational understanding will enable students to pursue postgraduate degrees in the future. The book is designed as a valuable reference even after graduation, offering insights into various topics, including a specific chapter on Anaesthetic Selection Protocol, which guides on appropriate drug use for different animal species.

In their remarks, Professors Olayide Adejinmi and Idowu Cadmus encouraged Bolaji-Alabi to continue her efforts and expressed hopes for her ongoing contributions to the field of veterinary literature.
