Two Thieves Die Trying To Steal Solar Lights
On December 28, 2024, two individuals were electrocuted while attempting to steal solar streetlights in Ogobiri, located in the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State…READ MORE…
A community source revealed to our correspondent on Saturday that their bodies were discovered the following morning near the New Site of the state-owned Niger Delta University, close to the Ogobiri roundabout.
An eyewitness recounted that the thieves had already loosened four streetlight poles and were in the process of removing a fifth when the pole collapsed onto nearby high-tension wires. “They had already loosened five solar poles, and while working on the fifth, it fell and struck the live wires, leading to their electrocution,” the eyewitness explained.
One thief was reportedly burned beyond recognition and died instantly, while the other was reduced to ashes. By around 11:30 am, the remains were still at the scene, taking the shape of a human form. The other body was later taken to the mortuary, while the removed streetlight poles were left beside the road.
The prevalence of streetlight thefts in the area has been a concern, and this incident may help deter further criminal activity. When approached for a comment, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Musa Mohammed, stated he had yet to receive any report on the incident. “I have not received the report,” he informed our correspondent.
