UK Minister Kemi Badenoch Touches Down In Nigeria Thriving For Trade Partnership

The UK Mission in Nigeria announced Badenoch’s arrival in a statement released on Sunday, highlighting her crucial role in advancing the ongoing efforts to deepen ties between the two nations.

Building on the momentum generated by previous high-level engagements, including the UK-Nigeria Security and Defence Talks and the former Foreign Secretary’s visit to Nigeria in August 2023, Minister Badenoch is set to propel initiatives aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and fostering new investment prospects.

During her stay, the Nigerian-born Minister, accompanied by Helen Grant, the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, will engage with key stakeholders, including Federal Government officials, State Governors, and representatives from both British and Nigerian business communities.

The agenda for the meetings encompasses discussions on a wide array of sectors, spanning from education to infrastructure and energy projects, with a focus on stimulating economic growth and job creation.

Minister Badenoch’s mission extends to fortifying the UK-Nigeria partnership, eliminating trade barriers, nurturing commercial ties, and enhancing accessibility to the City of London’s financial hub for Nigerian businesses.

Expressing optimism about the prospects for collaboration, British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, emphasized Nigeria’s significance as a vital partner for the UK in Africa. He underscored the commitment to facilitating increased investment flows and fostering conducive conditions for mutual growth.

Kemi Badenoch, who assumed office as Secretary of State for the Department for Business and Trade in February 2023, maintains key roles in international trade and equality initiatives, reflecting the UK’s multifaceted approach to fostering global partnerships and promoting inclusivity.
