Usman Yusuf Reveals Why Obi, Kwankwaso Dumped ADC

Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Usman Yusuf, has alleged that former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) because they could not match the political influence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, Yusuf made the remarks during an interview on Trust TV, where he claimed that both Obi and Kwankwaso added little value to the ADC while they were affiliated with the party. He argued that Atiku remained politically stronger than the duo, insisting that internal party processes should be respected rather than abandoned.

Yusuf further criticized ongoing legal disputes involving political parties, accusing the federal government of attempting to interfere in democratic processes through litigation. He also faulted the Attorney General’s involvement in court actions concerning political parties, describing it as unnecessary and inappropriate.

The former NHIS boss alleged that the current administration was more focused on political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections than governance, warning that such actions could threaten democracy and suppress opposition voices.

He also took a swipe at President Bola Tinubu over the popular slogan, “On your mandate we shall stand,” claiming that widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians could work against the President’s re-election ambitions in 2027.

Yusuf maintained that the ADC was yet to settle for any presidential candidate, stressing that the party was still following due process and internal consultations ahead of future elections.
