Victor Boniface Out For Season! Werder Bremen Confirms Knee Surgery Setback
According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian forward Victor Boniface will not feature again this season for Werder Bremen, bringing an end to a challenging period for the on-loan striker.
Boniface, 25, joined Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer but has been sidelined since December due to a knee injury sustained in training. He underwent surgery in January in Innsbruck, Austria, performed by renowned specialist Christian Fink.
While the striker has recently resumed light training, Bremen officials have confirmed that a return before the season concludes is not possible. Sporting director Peter Niemeyer commented, “He is completing his rehabilitation in Leverkusen, and we are pleased with every bit of progress. But it is still impossible to predict when he will be fully fit again.”
The announcement ends any hope of Boniface contributing to Bremen’s attack in the final stages of the season. Nevertheless, the Super Eagles forward has shown signs of recovery, sharing a video this week on performing leg exercises in the gym. In the caption, he wrote, “Help me post this one too, I dey training,” attracting messages of support from fans.
Boniface’s time at Bremen has been disrupted by injury. He appeared 11 times in the Bundesliga, providing two assists but failing to score, and these will now be his final contributions for the campaign.
The setback adds to an already testing period in his career. He missed the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and Bremen’s January 2026 league match against Borussia Dortmund due to complications in recovery. Off the pitch, Boniface has opened up about the emotional toll, admitting on social media to “putting on a fake smile for over a year now,” and adding, “Only God knows why all that is happening to me.
