Violence Erupts! Another Local Government Secretariat Set Ablaze In Rivers State

This arson follows a similar incident in which part of the Eleme Local Government Council Secretariat was also torched, just days after the Rivers Local Government Elections, where the Action Peoples Party (APP) claimed the majority of seats.

Meanwhile, former Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Austin Tam-George, has made serious accusations against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, alleging that he is deliberately trying to destabilize the state.

Tam-George, who served under Wike’s previous administration as governor, claims that Wike’s actions are fueling instability and exacerbating the tense political rivalry between him and current Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaking on Channels Television, Tam-George expressed his disappointment, accusing Wike of orchestrating the unrest. “He’s the one who has set forth a process to destabilize the state,” he said. “I expected him to focus on his new mandate rather than creating chaos in Rivers State.”

Rivers State has been embroiled in a political power struggle between Wike and Fubara, with tensions reaching new heights in the lead-up to and aftermath of the local elections. Tam-George warns that Wike’s actions not only harm the current administration but also jeopardize peace and security in the state.
