Visa Scam Alert: U.S. Targets Nigerian Fraudsters With Prosecution and Permanent Ban

The United States Mission in Nigeria has declared a sweeping crackdown on visa fraud, warning that Nigerians found guilty of manipulating the visa process will face stringent penalties, including a lifetime entry ban and possible prosecution. This directive was issued in an official statement shared on its X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, reflecting the U.S. government’s intensified interagency collaboration to preserve the integrity of its immigration system.

This comprehensive campaign, ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, is being coordinated across multiple U.S. agencies and is aimed at halting both visa fraud and illegal immigration. The statement emphasized that violators will not only be permanently barred from entering the U.S. but also prosecuted, especially those complicit in harbouring undocumented immigrants or facilitating their entry through fraudulent means.

“A nation without borders is not a nation,” the Mission asserted, sending a clear message about its renewed focus on border security. Officials cited recent cases as evidence of their firm resolve. For example, in Louisiana, a major investigation uncovered a scheme where falsified police reports were used to process fraudulent U visa applications, resulting in the indictment of five individuals, including law enforcement officers. In another case in Texas, two individuals were apprehended for coordinating a large-scale visa fraud ring involving various employment-based visa categories such as EB-2, EB-3, and H-1B.
