Vote Buying Scandal: PDP Agent Accuses Security Agents Of Compromising Integrity In Kaduna By-Election
In a shocking revelation, Yusuf Abubakar, an agent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, has accused security agents of compromising the ongoing by-election in the state by facilitating and supporting vote buying…..READ MORE
Speaking to Channels Television at Polling Unit 009 in Barnawa, Kaduna South Local Government Area, Abubakar expressed his dismay over the brazen prevalence of vote buying in the region.
Abubakar alleged that certain security agents were involved in facilitating and supporting the act of vote buying during the ongoing rerun and by-elections. He pointed out that the situation was not hidden but rather open for all to witness. When asked if political agents buy votes right in front of security agents, Abubakar responded affirmatively, stating, “Yes, even some of the security agents are being compromised. That is all I could say.”
Despite being uncertain about whether the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials were aware of the issue, Abubakar expressed concern that voters might be influenced to vote based on monetary incentives rather than freely exercising their right to vote.
As the by and rerun elections unfold across 26 states, this revelation raises serious questions about the integrity of the electoral process and the role of security agents in safeguarding its fairness. Naija News reports that a total of 4,613,291 Nigerians are expected to participate in these elections, aiming to fill vacancies in three senatorial districts, 17 federal constituencies, and 28 state constituencies. The elections are spread across 80 local government areas, 575 registration areas/wards, and 8,934 polling units. The states where these elections are taking place include Ebonyi, Yobe, Kebbi, Lagos, Ondo, Taraba, Benue, Borno, Kaduna, Plateau, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Cross River, Delta, Enugu, Jigawa, Katsina, Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Kano, Nasarawa, Niger, Oyo, Sokoto, and Zamfara.
