Okechukwu Isiguzoro, a chieftain of Ohanaeze, emphasized this need in response to a viral video showing distressed Igbo traders at the Trinity spare parts market in Apapa, Lagos, expressing frustration over their losses.
Isiguzoro described the systematic demolition of Igbo-populated markets in Lagos as disheartening and highlighted the organization’s careful documentation of these events. He expressed concern over what seems to be a targeted pattern against Igbo traders, urging President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to urgently intervene and prevent further demolitions.
In a statement, the factional Secretary General of Ohanaeze stressed the importance of acknowledging the current situation, stating, “Ndigbo must acknowledge that it is now time to gradually retreat and redirect their businesses back home.” The organization implored Igbo traders to consider relocating their business headquarters to Igbo land to avoid complications arising from future demolitions in Lagos.
The plea from Ohanaeze underscores the need for inclusive leadership, urging President Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu to demonstrate true leadership by decisively intervening to protect the rights and interests of all citizens, irrespective of their ethnicity.
