The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has provided insights into the recent meeting between its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and a delegation from Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by President General, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

The meeting, which took place at the Abuja facility of the Department of State Services (DSS), saw discussions on various pertinent issues. IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, clarified that Kanu was not involved in the recent violence in Abia State or other incidents in the Southeast.

Powerful emphasized Kanu’s commitment to the significance of May 30th as a day of remembrance, stating that it holds immense importance and will always be observed by IPOB. He reiterated that Kanu had directed an end to any activities that could bring harm or hardship to the people.

The statement highlighted the historical significance of May 30th and IPOB’s role in commemorating fallen heroes, condemning past atrocities committed by the Nigerian Army against peaceful gatherings. It also referenced the Nkpor massacre in 2016, which drew international condemnation.

The clarification from IPOB aims to provide context to the statements made during the meeting and reaffirm its commitment to peaceful commemoration while addressing misconceptions surrounding recent events in the Southeast.
