Waje Urges Male Influencers To Shape A Safer Online Culture At Governors’ Spouses Conference
Award-winning Nigerian singer and humanitarian, Waje, participated in the 6th Nigerian Governors’ Spouses Conference held in Abuja today. The event gathered the spouses of state governors, policymakers, development partners, and social advocates to deliberate on critical national issues, including women empowerment, healthcare, education, youth development, and social welfare.
During the conference, Waje emphasized the influential role of societal leaders and public figures in shaping culture and promoting positive change. She stressed that beyond policies and programs, everyday behaviors—both online and offline—play a significant role in determining the kind of society that emerges.
Highlighting the responsibility of public figures, particularly men, Waje stated that male influencers hold considerable power in shaping social norms through their words, actions, and even silence. She added that men can publicly challenge harmful behaviors in constructive ways and amplify women’s voices, particularly on issues of abuse, harassment, or inequality, thereby modeling respect that can influence younger generations.
Waje’s remarks underscored a key message of the conference: lasting social transformation depends not only on institutional leadership but also on the conscious, positive influence of individuals with cultural reach.
