Warri Wolves Close In On Kennedy Boboye As Rivers’ Finidi Targets Champions League Glory

Nigeria Premier Football League side, Warri Wolves, are preparing to appoint Kennedy Boboye as their new head coach following the suspension of Aluma Napoleon earlier in the week. According to Ireporter Online, the decision was taken after a string of poor results that left the Seasiders struggling for consistency this season.

Napoleon’s removal created an opening for Boboye, a highly regarded tactician in the domestic league who previously managed Plateau United and Akwa United. Warri Wolves have managed only seven points from their opening six fixtures and will be banking on Boboye to spark a turnaround. His debut assignment is expected to come this weekend when the team travels to Kano for a matchday seven encounter against Barau FC.

In a related development, Rivers United secured passage into the second round of the CAF Champions League after defeating FS Les Aigles of DR Congo 1-0 on aggregate. The Port Harcourt-based club, popularly known as the Pride of Rivers, showed resilience to book their spot in the next stage.

Head coach Finidi George, while acknowledging the challenges ahead, expressed optimism that his side can build on the victory. He noted that the immediate task is to prepare for the clash against Mozambican champions, Black Bulls. The first leg of the tie will be staged in Maputo on October 17, with the return leg set for Uyo, where victory over both legs would earn Rivers United a place in the lucrative group phase of the competition.
