Wheat Production: Gov. Namadi Accuses Officials Of Sabotage, Orders Arrest Of Farmers’ Leader

officials from the federal Ministry of Agriculture of undermining the 2025 initiative aimed at cultivating 100,000 hectares of wheat in the state.
The governor made these allegations during unannounced visits to seedling and input redemption centers in the Birnin Kudu and Kiyawa local government areas. He expressed his frustration over the delays in supplying essential materials and the exploitation of farmers through inflated official prices.
As farmers ramp up preparations for the dry-season wheat planting, the governor reiterated his commitment to making the state the leading wheat producer in Nigeria, setting a goal of 100,000 hectares, significantly higher than the 45,000 hectares allocated to the state by the federal government.
During the visit, which included key government officials such as the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, Namadi was visibly upset and shared his concerns in a widely circulated video. He criticized the handling of input supplies, emphasizing that arrangements had been made with the relevant ministry to ensure timely planting to meet the targeted production goal.
At the Kiyawa center, the governor instructed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to arrest Alhaji Isyaku Katanga, chairman of the Kiyawa chapter of the All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN), and demanded the retrieval of funds collected from farmers.
Namadi pledged to ensure that registered farmers receive the full support as directed by the Federal Government. Many farmers expressed their gratitude to the governor for his commitment and promised to back the state government’s efforts to assist them.
The governor stated, “There is an issue with some of the agro-dealers. They are preventing farmers from redeeming their inputs, and many are not present here. I visited and found no one at this redemption center.”

He added, “We will be reporting these issues to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. If the agro-dealers continue to withhold inputs from the farmers timely, we risk wasting government resources without achieving worthwhile results because they are not following proper protocols.” Namadi emphasized, “This is something we will not tolerate as a government, and we will ensure that appropriate actions are taken.
