Wike Accuses Makinde Of Frustration Over Missed Ministerial Appointment
According to reports, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of harboring anger over not being offered a ministerial position by President Bola Tinubu.
Wike made the remarks on Monday in Port Harcourt while responding to criticisms leveled against him by Makinde. He explained that the G-5—a group comprising himself, former governors Okezie Ikpeazu, Samuel Ortom, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi—had met with President Tinubu on the issue, and the President assured them that appropriate action would be taken.
“When we agreed on this, Seyi’s problem was that he was not given a ministerial slot. Even when he was expressing himself, his anger was evident. We advised him to calm down,” Wike stated.
The minister added that Makinde’s reactions often escalated tensions unnecessarily. Recalling a previous incident, Wike said Makinde publicly responded in the media instead of discussing matters privately during a meeting, creating the perception of division among their group.
Wike also suggested that Makinde’s early financial success has influenced his behavior, noting, “Having made $1 million at a young age, he sometimes reacts disproportionately. He dwells on that figure, forgetting that others who made similar sums have gone on to achieve much greater success.”
