Wike Should Sit Down With APC Governors And Explain” — Joe Igbokwe
All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to meet with APC governors and explain his proposed Rainbow Coalition, which is aimed at mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to reports, Igbokwe made the call during an interview on TVC’s ‘This Morning Show’ on Wednesday while reacting to the disagreement between Wike and APC governors over the proposed political coalition.
The development followed comments by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who said APC governors would not support any political arrangement that could undermine the party or Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.
Wike, however, in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Tuesday, maintained that his decision to support Tinubu did not mean he had abandoned his political party or agreed that other political parties should be prevented from fielding candidates.
The FCT Minister also argued that his understanding of the country’s political situation was greater than that of those criticising his activities, saying his critics would have a better understanding of his position if they had access to the information available to him.
Reacting to the development, Igbokwe described Wike as an important political stakeholder whose influence should not be ignored. He urged the minister to engage with APC governors and clearly explain his intentions regarding the Rainbow Coalition.
According to Igbokwe, the disagreement should be addressed through dialogue rather than public exchanges between Wike and the governors.
“Wike is a critical stakeholder. You can ignore him to your own peril. He has a command. He has the followers.
“Coming at this time, to put this (Rainbow Coalition) on the table, it’s not… he has to listen to majority, sit down with the governors and explain.
“No man is an Island. Explain to your colleagues what you are trying to do,” Igbokwe said.
