A recent media report highlighted the collaborative effort of Nigerian Army Special Forces, Navy Special Boats Services (SBS), and Air Force combat pilots under Operation FANSAN YANMA (OpFY). The operation targeted notorious terrorist leader Turji Bello’s camp, inflicting significant losses.
Makama, in his updates, revealed that troops liberated multiple bandit enclaves and raised the Nigerian flag to signify dominance.
Sharing images and footage from the field, Makama confirmed that at least 44 terrorists were neutralized, while over 25 sustained injuries during a coordinated assault across various fronts.
“The operation began on February 7 with a three-pronged attack on terrorist strongholds in the Mashema area, notorious for harboring armed bandits and insurgents,” Makama stated.
Led by the 1 Brigade Special Forces with air support from OpFY, the offensive kicked off at 8:00 AM. Team 1 advanced through terrorist-held zones, clearing fortified positions in Kashabawa, Bwarare, and Zaki before reaching Sakarawa Hill.
Despite facing fierce resistance and encountering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted along their path, troops executed a flanking maneuver, successfully engaging the insurgents without casualties among Nigerian forces.
Key terrorist leaders linked to notorious bandits Bello Turji and Sani Black were among those killed. The high-profile militants eliminated include Sanni Bammuwa, Kachallah Auta (former deputy to Sani Black), Audu Gajere, Kabiru Jangeru, and Dan-Kane (son of Audu Jabbi).
Makama emphasized that the extensive mining at the base of Sakarawa Hill prevented full troop advancement despite the successful strikes. Nevertheless, air support returned for a second bombardment, neutralizing additional insurgents.
In a separate operation, troops advancing towards Badarawa faced resistance but successfully cleared multiple terrorist pockets along their route. Despite the intensity of the operation, Makama confirmed that no casualties were recorded among Nigerian forces.
The successful offensive demonstrates the military’s continued resolve in dismantling terrorist networks across the Northwest, signaling a significant victory in the ongoing fight against insurgency in Zamfara State.
