On Wednesday, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, refuted the circulating rumor that the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) acquired a N300 Million Armoured Lexus LX600, just a day after his swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu.

In his statement, he said, “We are now heading to the office to gather direct reports from each department, but I have noticed the social media chatter about how you (FCTA Permanent Secretary) supposedly purchased a N300 Million Naira bulletproof car that I am using.”

He urged reporters to verify the accuracy of such claims by inspecting the car, challenging them to “hit your hand there (on the car) and see whether it is a treated car.” He emphasized the importance of being careful not to tarnish people’s reputations with unfounded accusations.

Wike clarified, “When I arrived, the Permanent Secretary mentioned that there was a car for us, and this is the car we are using. I have never authorized the purchase of any car, and I am not utilizing an official bulletproof vehicle.”

Regarding his tenure as governor, he admitted to having official vehicles, noting, “As a governor, what would you expect me to have? However, as the FCT Minister, I am not using a bulletproof car. Therefore, let’s report accurately and avoid harming ourselves.”

He issued a challenge to the journalists, inviting them to examine his vehicle and determine whether it is indeed a bulletproof car, thus highlighting the importance of reporting factual information.
