JUST IN: FG Gives Update On CBN Probe Report

The Federal Government announced yesterday that Nigerians will soon gain insight into the events that transpired at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during Godwin Emefiele’s tenure, as the special investigator’s findings are set to be released.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, stated, “We have a new team at the CBN and a special investigator has been in the CBN for some time now. His findings will soon be made public, and Nigerians will come to understand what truly happened and how we arrived at our current situation.”

During a briefing on the program for the 63rd Independence Day anniversary, Akume, who chairs the organizing committee, emphasized, “Many of the challenges we face are a result of poor governance. The current government has been actively addressing these challenges. When President Bola Tinubu assumed office, he made a crucial decision regarding the CBN. This significant action led to a substantial improvement in the capital market, a development that experts have noted as unprecedented in the past 15 years.”

On July 28, Tinubu appointed Mr. Jim Obazee, Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), as the special investigator for the CBN. The President directed the investigator to provide weekly reports to his office to keep him updated on the progress of the probe.
