The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Umar Damagun, along with the Vice Presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and several party Governors, made a joint visit to Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, to rally support for the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Senator Douye Diri, in the upcoming November 11 election.

The culminating event of the Bayelsa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship campaign took place at the Ox-bow Lake Pavilion in Yenagoa.

Also present were notable figures including Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State (Chairman of the National Campaign Council), Governors Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Umoh Enoh (Akwa-Ibom), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Deputy Governor of Bayelsa Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor, and his Edo State counterpart, Phillip Shaibu. Former Governors Senator Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa) and Senator Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto State) were also in attendance.

Amb. Umar Damagun, the Acting National Chairman, presented the party’s flag to Governor Diri, affirming the party’s positive impact in the state. He urged the people to reciprocate the party’s efforts by re-electing Governor Diri on Saturday. He emphasized the importance of avoiding past mistakes and voting for Diri, a man committed to peace and the state’s development.

Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, praised the party for its unity ahead of the election, expressing confidence that unity would lead to victory. Okowa commended Diri for his humility, dedication, and hard work throughout the state, noting positive changes in Yenagoa and other parts of Bayelsa over time.

“As for the votes you will win but you must ensure you defend the votes across the polling units and at all collation points,” Okowa stated.

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, representing the PDP Governors, praised Diri for his notable governance reforms and encouraged the electorate to vote for the party to ensure the continuation of quality governance in the state. He emphasized the importance of staying at polling units until votes are counted.

Speaking on behalf of the party’s National Assembly members, Senator Aminu Tambuwal expressed confidence in Diri and Ewhrudjakpor’s performance and urged the public to support their continued good work.

Former Governor of the State, Senator Seriake Dickson, commended the PDP’s achievements in Bayelsa, citing widespread dividends of democracy brought about by the party. He applauded Diri for expanding the boundaries of development throughout the state and thanked the state’s leaders, especially women and youths, for their support. He urged them to unite in support of the party for another four years.

Dickson affirmed that Diri and his Deputy have proven themselves through trials and testing. He emphasized the importance of peace, security, stability, and development in the state, and called for elections that are free, fair, and transparent.

Governor Douye Diri expressed gratitude to his guests and the people of Bayelsa for their overwhelming support. He pledged not to let them down and promised to further advance development in the state. He called on the public to vote overwhelmingly for the PDP on Saturday.

Hon. Solomon Agwanana, the State Chairman of PDP, welcomed the guests and highlighted the party’s regained strength. He stated that Bayelsans are determined to re-elect Douye Diri to continue advancing prosperity, peace, security, and development in the state.

The campaign team had previously visited former President Goodluck Jonathan at his Yenagoa residence, seeking his support and blessings.
