Oshiomhole stated that the President insists on the emergence of the most popular candidate through a free and fair primary election.

This disclosure was made on Wednesday after Oshiomhole’s meeting with President Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, as reported by State House correspondents.

Despite references to precedents in Kogi and Benue State, where zoning was not enforced, Oshiomhole emphasized that Edo State cannot be singled out for zoning, asserting that President Tinubu has not endorsed zoning for the rescheduled APC governorship primary slated for Thursday, February 22.

The APC’s governorship primary in Edo State faced controversy over the weekend, declared inconclusive after conflicting claims of victory by different candidates. In response, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State was removed as the chairman of the primary election committee, replaced by his Cross River State counterpart, Governor Bassey Otu.

With these developments, the APC aims to ensure a fair and transparent process in selecting its candidate for the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election, as indicated by the appointments to the revised primary election committee and the appeal committee.
