However, amidst the looming crisis, a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, clarified the situation. Contrary to initial claims of a staggering N923 million debt, the actual outstanding bill for the State House amounted to N342,352,217.46, as confirmed in a letter dated February 14, 2024, from the AEDC to the State House Permanent Secretary.

President Tinubu’s decisive directive follows the reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and AEDC, ensuring that the matter is swiftly addressed to prevent disruptions in essential services.

Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, has provided assurance that the debt will be settled before the end of the week, setting a precedent for other government ministries, departments, and agencies to follow suit by reconciling their accounts and promptly settling their electricity bills.

President Tinubu’s proactive stance underscores his commitment to ensuring that Nigerians do not suffer undue hardships, exemplifying a leadership style focused on addressing challenges head-on and prioritizing the welfare of the populace.
