Reigning Premier League champions Arsenal have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in a deal reportedly worth £75 million.

According to Ireporter Online, the 28-year-old midfielder has agreed to a four-year contract with Arsenal, with an option to extend the deal for another 12 months.

The transfer brings Guimaraes’ four-year spell at Newcastle to an end, with the Brazilian now set to begin a new chapter under Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Speaking after completing the move, Guimaraes expressed his excitement about joining the North London club, saying discussions with sporting director Andrea Berta and Arteta convinced him that Arsenal represented the right challenge at this stage of his career.

The midfielder pledged to give his best for the club and expressed hope of creating memorable moments with his new teammates and supporters.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta also welcomed the arrival, describing Guimaraes as a technically gifted player with a strong mentality and leadership qualities.

Berta said the Brazilian’s versatility would provide Arteta with additional options in midfield, noting that Guimaraes is capable of operating both as a defensive midfielder and in a box-to-box role.

The Arsenal hierarchy believes his arrival will strengthen competition within the squad while providing additional quality as the club targets major domestic and European honours.

Newcastle had hoped to retain the Brazil international, who still had two years remaining on his previous contract, with an option for another season. However, the transfer represents a significant financial boost for the club.

Guimaraes’ departure reportedly takes Newcastle’s transfer income this summer beyond £240 million, following the exits of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham.

The midfielder joined Newcastle from Lyon for around £40 million in January 2022 and went on to make 195 appearances for the club.

During his time at St James’ Park, Guimaraes scored 31 goals and played an important role in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph.

His transfer to Arsenal is reportedly among the highest fees ever received by Newcastle for a player aged 28 or older and represents a club record sale involving a player of his age and position.
