The House of Representatives member representing Numan/Lamurde/Demsa federal constituency of Adamawa State on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Kwamoti Laori, has ruled out the northern region forming regional security outfits.

Kwamoti told journalists yesterday in Demsa Local Council, after commissioning his constituency projects, that the North was too diverse to agree on regional security outfits to police the region.

Supporting local council policing system, the former acting speaker of Adamawa House of Assembly pointed out that “it is easy to operate regional security outfits in South West and South East because each of them is one ethnic group with one culture.”

He said that regional security outfits would not affect the operations of federal government security agencies if they were operating within the laws of the country.

“Local council police are the best to tackle the security challenges. They will be more acceptable to the people. Security is a local thing. When you are operating in your own environment, you will be more effective because you know everyone; so if a stranger walks into your place, he can easily be identified and this will help to curtail crises,” he said.

The lawyer-turned-politician expressed displeasure over the proposal for state police, pointing out that there would be no new changes from the federal police behaviours of taking orders from Abuja, if state police is introduced.

“For instance, if you post a police from another local council to work in another local, he will still have the problem of culture and language barrier and he will be affected by the environmental factors he has to contend with.
