Speaking at the 2024 inaugural hajj airlift at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, May 15, Shettima emphasized Tinubu’s commitment to religious pilgrimages, noting their importance in addressing social issues beyond the pilgrimage itself.
He highlighted the challenge of setting the final hajj fare due to fluctuating foreign exchange rates and praised Tinubu’s efforts to stabilize the local currency, which ultimately lowered the pilgrimage costs. The President’s approval of N90 billion for subsidies reflects his high regard for the pilgrimage.
Shettima also mentioned that the government selected individuals with integrity and administrative expertise to manage the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, ensuring the well-being of pilgrims both in Saudi Arabia and within Nigeria. He underscored the comprehensive safety, security, and comfort provisions for the Nigerian contingent, attributing the nation’s prosperity to collective prayers and contributions.
