Just In: Benue-State Police Rescue Nine-Abducted Passengers After Fatal-Ambush (Details)
The Nigerian police in Benue State have rescued nine individuals who were abducted on June 13, 2024, while traveling along the Ojano-Oglewu road near Otukpo Local Government Area. The incident occurred when gunmen ambushed a Benue Links vehicle carrying passengers from Onitsha to Makurdi.
SP Catherine Anene, the police public relations officer for the Benue State command, stated that the assailants emerged from a nearby forest, shooting sporadically and forcing the vehicle to stop. The driver sustained fatal gunshot injuries and died, while the passengers were taken hostage.
Anene confirmed the police’s prompt response, leading to the rescue of nine kidnapped victims and the apprehension of some of the kidnappers involved. “The driver of the said vehicle sustained gunshot injuries that led to his death, while the passengers were kidnapped. Nine victims were later rescued while the investigation continued,” she reported.
