Obasanjo Warns: “Those Pushing Igbos Out of Lagos Will Be the Ones to Leave”
Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has issued a stern warning to those advocating for the removal of the Igbo community from Lagos, calling such divisive rhetoric dangerous and counterproductive. Speaking at an event on Thursday, Obasanjo emphasized that those who champion ethnic exclusion would eventually find themselves on the losing side.
Obasanjo highlighted the importance of unity and inclusivity, stressing that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity. “Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians,” he declared, urging leaders and citizens alike to reject ethnic-based politics and embrace tolerance. He pointed out that Lagos, as the nation’s economic powerhouse, owes much of its success to its rich multicultural environment.
The former president condemned any form of discrimination, arguing that history has repeatedly shown that those who sow discord and hatred are often the ones who become marginalized. Obasanjo called on all Nigerians to focus on building a prosperous and united country where every citizen, regardless of ethnicity, feels at home. He urged an end to any rhetoric that threatens national unity and instead encouraged efforts toward fostering a more inclusive and harmonious society.
