Governor Bago Celebrates IBB at 83, Hails Him as a Pillar of Unity
Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has praised former military head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida, as a unifier, marking his 83rd birthday with high commendation. In a heartfelt message delivered on August 16, 2024, through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago highlighted Babangida’s enduring contributions to Nigeria’s unity and development.
Governor Bago lauded Babangida as a “patriotic elder statesman and an embodiment of honour and service who has served the country diligently and with commitment.” He emphasized Babangida’s unwavering dedication to the nation’s unity, stability, and progress, noting his consistent involvement in selfless service for the well-being of the citizens.
In his message, Bago remarked on Babangida’s leadership qualities, praising his focus on excellence and competence. The governor credited Babangida’s tenure as Military President with the successful implementation of numerous policies and programs that have had a lasting impact on the country.
“The former Nigerian leader, who always craves excellence, prioritizes competence, which is why numerous policies and programs were implemented with huge success under his leadership as the Military President,” Bago stated.
Governor Bago also acknowledged Babangida’s role as a mentor to many Nigerians, underscoring his influence and the respect he commands across the nation. “IBB has, no doubt, carved a niche for himself and has become a mentor to many Nigerians,” Bago added.
General Ibrahim Babangida, often referred to as IBB, led Nigeria from 1985 to 1993. His administration is remembered for various economic reforms and political strategies aimed at strengthening the country’s unity and fostering development. Despite the controversies that marked his regime, Babangida remains a significant figure in Nigeria’s history.
