Engonga, 54, was arrested earlier this week after allegedly recording over 400 sex tapes featuring the wives of prominent figures in the country. The scandal broke during an investigation into fraud, which led to an unannounced search of his home and office. During this search, ANIF officials discovered numerous CDs containing footage of Engonga’s sexual encounters with various married women.

As the tapes went viral online, sparking public outrage, Equatorial Guinea’s President, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, swiftly dismissed Engonga from his position.

A decree dated November 4, 2024, stated that Engonga’s dismissal stemmed from “irregularities in the exercise of his duties” as well as “inappropriate family and social conduct” which were deemed unsuitable for someone holding public office.

A viral video surfaced on social media showing Engonga in handcuffs, shackled during his court appearance. He was formally removed from office on November 6, 2024, and transferred to Malabo Central Prison, where he faces charges of corruption and embezzlement.

Despite his incarceration, the sex tapes continued to spread across social networks, confirming that he was already under arrest for embezzling public funds when the footage began circulating, as reported by TVGE and online sources such as UGStandard.
