socio-cultural group.

Okiro, speaking to journalists after the election, disclosed that the alleged court order, purportedly issued by the Enugu State High Court, was widely circulated in the media and became the basis for the Election Screening Committee to bar him from participating in the process.

“My attention was drawn to media reports claiming I was barred from contesting the Ohanaeze Ndigbo PG election by an order of the Enugu High Court,” Okiro explained. “I engaged my lawyer to obtain the order and take steps to vacate it. Unfortunately, time ran out, and my lawyer couldn’t secure the documents before the deadline.”

In a bid to remain law-abiding, Okiro announced on January 9 that he would step aside from the election pending further legal clarification. However, he later discovered that the so-called court order was a fabrication.

“When my lawyer eventually obtained the court proceedings after the election, it was clear there was no order preventing my participation,” Okiro stated. “Justice N.R. Orji had only granted permission for the applicants to serve respondents, not to bar me from the election.”

Okiro expressed frustration over the misleading claims, stating that the false narrative cost him the opportunity to contest. “The media reports were deceitful and damaging. I complied with what I believed to be a legitimate order, only to find out it was a hoax.”

The retired police chief has called on authorities to invoke Section 125(A) of the Criminal Code Laws to address the alleged criminal conspiracy against him.

“This is a clear case of criminality, and justice must be served,” he asserted.
