A New Dawn For Anambra? APC Candidate Shares Revolutionary Plan To Tackle Sit-At-Home

Onyeka Young Nwafor, a gubernatorial aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, has vowed to take decisive measures to combat the state’s security issues, which may include using force to eliminate the weekly sit-at-home order.

Nwafor criticized the administration of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for its inadequate response to the state’s security crises.

In an interview on Arise TV on January 23, 2025, he expressed his willingness to support the release of Nnamdi Kanu if it would contribute to peace in the southeastern region.

Regarding the sit-at-home orders, Nwafor mentioned that his administration would initially seek dialogue with those enforcing the shutdown. However, he stressed that if discussions fail, he would be prepared to use security forces to apprehend those responsible.

Nwafor stated, “The sit-at-home issue affects the southeast, and I believe that a political solution is essential. I am not opposed to the release of Nnamdi Kanu; if his release will lead to peace, I would back it, especially since businesses are suffering. My government will engage with those imposing the sit-at-home; they are human, not ghosts.”

When asked if he was aware of the individuals enforcing the sit-at-home orders, he replied, “We will investigate in due time: Who are the ones doing this? We will make arrests.”

“We need to understand who they are; we cannot proceed with just the notion of using force. There may be a need for some discussions. If dialogue fails, I will resort to using force,” he added.

Nwafor also pledged to involve vital stakeholders, including traditional leaders, in efforts to resolve the sit-at-home situation and restore safety throughout the state.
