According to information obtained by PUNCH Metro, a video circulating online shows the officer, who was not in uniform, slumping and dying in an undisclosed location in Lagos on Sunday.

The footage depicts the officer’s lifeless body surrounded by onlookers, including police officers, who conducted a search of the deceased’s belongings. It was during this search that they discovered the officer’s identity card confirming his affiliation with the EFCC. A voice in the video stated, “He works with EFCC. His ID card is with him.”

In a phone interview on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the death and stated that an investigation is underway. “Yes, the individual is our officer. His death is being looked into. The incident occurred on Sunday,” Oyewale stated.

ireporteronline Metro previously reported on January 15 that Joshua Ikechukwu, a suspected fraudster, shot Assistant Superintendent Aminu Salisu of the EFCC during a raid in Anambra State. The EFCC operatives had traveled from their zonal headquarters in Enugu to apprehend a group of identified cybercriminals when they were ambushed.

Oyewale condemned the negative narratives surrounding the officer’s death and emphasized that the commission would ensure justice prevails.
