No Excuses! – Gov Sani Demands Apology from Northern Leaders Over 20 Years of Betrayal
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has placed the blame for the persistent poverty and underdevelopment in Northern Nigeria squarely on the shoulders of the region’s political class.
Speaking during a one-on-one interview with Daily Trust, Governor Sani asserted that every political officeholder from the North in the past two decades shares responsibility for the region’s current woes and must tender a public apology to the people.
According to the Governor, the political elite in Northern Nigeria failed to uplift the region and have lost the moral ground to criticize President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“The issues plaguing Northern Nigeria didn’t just begin two years ago. We need to look back over the past 20 years,” he said. “If you’ve held any political office in the North within that time frame, you must face the truth, look in the mirror, and admit that we’ve collectively failed our people. An apology is the least we owe them.”
Governor Sani also criticized the inefficiency of social intervention programs, particularly under former President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that despite the massive investments, poverty worsened in the North due to financial exclusion.
“Buhari’s government spent hundreds of billions on social interventions, yet the region became poorer. Why? Because about 70% of the masses in the North were completely excluded from the financial system,” he explained.
