Stop Acting Like PDP is Still in Charge!’ — Ned Nwoko Slams Oborevwori Over New States Creation”

Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North, has called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to abandon the old political practices of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following his recent move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to reports, Nwoko, in a statement issued on Sunday, emphasized that the APC had already set the groundwork for constitutional reforms, including the creation of Anioma and New Delta states, even before Oborevwori’s defection.

Nwoko cautioned that the governor’s move to the APC must go beyond symbolism, urging him to embrace real change by committing to progressive leadership, equity, and inclusive development.

The senator hailed Oborevwori’s decision as courageous, noting that it opened a new chapter for Delta State and the nation’s political landscape.

The statement read:
“New wine must not be poured into old wineskins. The outdated politics and practices that contributed to the PDP’s decline in Delta must be left behind.”

“A top priority is the creation of two new viable states — Anioma and New Delta. Let me remind you: this initiative had already been secured by the APC leadership well before your defection, demonstrating the party’s commitment to addressing historical injustices and ending regional marginalization.”

“Your defection must bring real transformation, not just a change of party. It is a chance to show a deeper commitment to governance that is fair, forward-looking, and inclusive.”

“The creation of Anioma State will finally give Delta North its rightful voice and institutional strength — a long-overdue recognition of the people’s aspirations for equality.”

“Meanwhile, the proposed New Delta State will resolve the internal disparities within the current Delta structure, bringing government closer to marginalized communities and creating fresh opportunities for economic growth.”

“For the first time, the APC has the numbers to amend the constitution without compromising the interests of the South. We are negotiating from a position of strength, not weakness.”
